The cereal cyst nematode, Heterodera avenae, is a serious plant pest. To the most important parasites of this nematode belong Nematophthora gynophila - the main parasite of nematode females, and Verticillium chlamydosporium - the main parasite of nematode's eggs. From the known parasitic fungi N.gynophila is expected to have the greatest chance to be used in the biological control of the nematode. In cereal cyst nematode populations in Poland the number of parasitized eggs varied from 4% to 75%.
