The effect of a new fungistatic preparation RUN was tested in two-year pilot technological recording storage trials as exerted on storability of sugar beet and key indicators of its technological quality. Preparation applications consisted in root soaking in water suspension at a rate of 1 1/t sugar beet. Storage time in 1992 was 63 days and in 1993 it was 49 days. In the course of storage of treated and untreated sugar beet roots these indicators were studied: loss of weight, sugar content, polarizing sugar content, root contamination by storage diseases, variations of the content of technologically important nonsugars (nitrogen substances, K and Na) and refined sugar yield. A positive effect of the preparation on the decrease in storage losses of sugar beet was demonstrated to depend upon weather conditions, storage duration and beet quality. In the 1992 sugar beet campaign with good weather conditions the treated sugar beet had the relatively lower sugar losses by 77 % in comparison with the control while in the 1993 campaign with unfavourable weather conditions characterized by frosts weather and subsequent thaw the decrease in sugar loss amounted to 6.8 % only.
