Monitoring of pest insects in continuously planted groundnut plots was continued for the third year. Similar to the previous year, in 1984, leaf miner, leaf hopper and thrips were still the common species found. Other insects were observed in small numbers. The seasonal distribution pattern of leaf miner population in 1984 was similar to that observed in the previous year. The insect population was low at the beginning of the year, increased at the end of April, reaching the peak in July, remained high during August-October, then gradually dropped in November and December. The outbreak pattern of leaf hopper was somewhat different from that observed in 1983. In 1984, the population was low during January to March. The number increased at the end of April, peaked in May, then decreased and remained at low numbers from June to December. Thrips were present at low number at the beginning of the year. The number increased slowly from February and reached the peak in April (5.9 insects/plant). Very low number of insects were observed during May to September and none was found in October. A small number of the insects were present again in November and December.
