The direct injection system shows promising: it integrates notions like rentability, security and environment protection. The basic concept of this injection system consists of introducing directly the chemical products into the water stream in the sprayer pipes. One to four pumps determine the quantity of the different pesticides to be injected. This system allows to avoid a great part of conventional sprayers drawbacks, such as: a rather difficult homogenization of great volumes of solutions, presence of residues in the main sprayer tank, important contaminated volume of pipes, the obligation to process generalized treatments. In order to confirm the performances of this system and to detect its possible problems, a study on the chemical injection system CCI-2000 (Mid-West technology) is carried out. Although the trials concern a determined system, conclusions and remarks can be generalized. The injection pumps flow depends on the physico-chemical characteristics of the chemical products and on the pressure at the injection point. The localization of the injection point directly influences the inertia of the system. The response time of the chemicals flow rate regulation system conditions the instantaneous concentration. A reduced period of mix between water and chemical products acts upon their repartition into the drop; this problem specially occurs with same emulsifiable concentrates (E.C.). Finally, there is presently no response to several problems, but the concept remains attractive and constitutes a technology for the future.
