Ammonia solution was used for the control of Sclerotium rolfsii causing Sclerotial wilt of Pan (Piper betle L.). Mycelial growth and sclerotia production was inhibited in PDA medium containing 0.125% of ammonia solution. With the increase of immersion period the germination of sclerotia was decreased when they were immersed at 0.125% of ammonia solution. The efficacy of ammonia solution on detached stem cuttings kept in petridishes and stem cuttings planted in soil infested with sclerotia were studied. Complete protection of stems were obtained with the spraying of 0.125% solution in petridishes and the soil spraying with 0.5% of solution. The results of the present research programme indicated that liquid ammonia may be an effective economical and safer spray materials for the control of Sclerotium rolfsii.
