Inhibition of senescence in cut carnation flowers caused by ultra-high concentrations of 2,4-D. [Conference paper].

Production of both CO(,2)and ethylene and petal senescence were accelerated by uptake of 4, 20, and 100 mg 2,4-D/l, compared to water controls. 500 mg 2,4-D/l supressed CO(,2) and ethylene evolution and retarded senescence. Although 500 mg 2,4-D/l protected against senescence of petals, stem and gynaecium tissues were adversely affected by the same concentration.
