Although the earlier study showed that the use of the borer egg masses was a good guiding index in the borer management control, it is not practical for general farmers. In this study. It was found that the number of infested plants may be used as the alternative index. Application of the insecticide should be done when the average number of the damaged plants was in the range of 55 to 85 per 100 plants sampled. Surveillance for the sign of infestation should be made as early as when the plants reach 3 weeks old.
