Two spinach cultivars (viroflay open pollination OP and the hybrid Quinto) were evaluated in a rotation with green manure (Crotalaria juncea) and with three different concentrations (20%, 40% and 100%) of Bio1 to the foliage and were compared to a control. A statistical complete randomized block under factorial design was used. The yield was highly statistically significant due to the following factors: rotation with green manure (24.3 t/ha), Bio1 100% (25.8 t/ha) and the interaction of rotation x cultivar (25.2 t/ha), where the production of cv. viroflay OP was superior to cv. Quinto hybrid production when green manure was used. Total dry matter accumulation was not statistically significant, and the quality characteristics (plant size, length, leaf width) for fresh market were affected exclusively by the cultivar effect. High yields obtained with green manure in rotation and high Biol concentrations justifies its wide and common use, especially among small farmers, improving spinach organic production efficiency even when an OP cultivar was used.
