Renewable energy sources find many applications in agriculture and among them in heating greenhouses. However the application of these renewable energy sources has various environmental implications and various advantages in comparison with the conventional energy sources because they will find more applications in this field in the future. Greenhouses provide a suitable environment for the production of various plants by controlling solar radiation, temperature, humidity and carbon dioxide levels in the environment. Using solar energy is the cheapest form of energy that can be used for heating greenhouses. Using solar energy can be enhanced by proper orientation of the greenhouse and other technical measures, thus reducing the consumption of expensive, conventional fuels. The availability of solar radiation and its daily and annual distributions have a huge impact on productivity and quality of plants that are grown. Total solar radiation received by the greenhouse at a certain time at a particular location depends on its shape and orientation of the greenhouse. This paper presents the results of the analysis of the energy parameters of solar greenhouse, set along the east-west orientation for geographical and climatic conditions of Cacak (Serbia). The results show the global solar radiation intensities on the walls and roof of the greenhouse and the change in air temperature inside the greenhouse, calculated using the measured hourly average values of the ambient air temperature and global solar radiation on the greenhouse cover on the selected location. The results show that the usage of solar energy offers good opportunities for greenhouse production which can reduce conventional sources of energy for heating during winter and early spring months.
