Driving forces and characteristics of currents in the Palić Lake [Serbia] | Uzroci i karakteristike strujanja u Palićkom jezeru [Srbija]

Through the case of the Palic Lake, this paper investigates the basic elements in developing the flow pattern in shallow lakes: bathymetry, mud cover, inflow and outflow, Coriolis effect and winds. The study was carried out by means of a two dimensional numerical model (in horizontal plane) with a curvilinear coordinate system. The applied model, having unsealed code is adaptable to actual demands and has functioned in reliable and stable manner. For the sake of modeling the actual bathymetry of the lake has been surveyed in approximately 600 locations. Wind data were obtained from the meteorological station located on the shore of the Palic Lake. The numerical experiments have shown that for the listed driving forces the maximum velocities reach 2.5 cm/s, while wind action overpowers the influence of all other factors.
