Preliminary flood risk assessment is a first step in the implementation of the Directive 2007/60/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 October 2007 on the assessment and management of flood risks. This paper covers the Floods directive requirements, short description and conclusions of the review of the available literature related to the Floods Directive implementation in the EU, the analysis of the relevant data availability for the territory of the Republic of Serbia, and presents the initial criteria set for definition of significant flood risk.
