The aim of this paper was to show importance and possibilities of organic milk production on small dairy farms as well as the economic aspects of that production. Organic animal production is based on animal welfare and prosperity. Organic milk production is a way to reduce pesticide use and mineral surplus in agriculture but this production form also requires substantially more farmland than conventional production. This study shows that a low-input agricultural system, such as organic milk production, has obvious environmental benefits. Suggested improvements in organic production are: differentiation in limits of purchased feed and an increase in the self-supporting capacity of the farm. Economic analysis showed that small farms which produce at least 500 l per day of organic milk as well as process it in high profitable milk products (cheese) could be very profitable.
