Xylella fastidiosa Wells et al. 1987 is a causal agent of Pierce's disease on grape (PD) and many other economically important plant diseases. The disease is spread by sap-feeding insect vectors and in many areas in the United States the disease is endemic; however, it is not yet present in Europe.
