The aim of the study was to find the gross energy (GE) value of high moisture crimped corn silages determined by two various methods. Besides the gross energy, we also determined the value of metabolisable energy (ME) and net energy for lactation (NEL) in control silages (K variant) as well as in silages with biochemical additive (A variant) and in silages with chemical additive (B variant). The GE was determined by direct calorimetric method and indirect method by calculation according to Schiemann et al. (1972). The ME was evaluated by calculation. The NEL value was calculated on the base of GE value determined by calculation (Schiemann et al., 1972) and on the base of GE value determined by calorimetric method. The value of calorimetric GE varied between 18.36 (variant K and B) and 18.60 (A variant) MJ.kg1 of dry matter. Calculated GE (Schiemann et al., 1972) varied from 18.61 (B variant) to 18.69 (variant K) MJ/kg of dry matter. The significantly (P lt 0.05) lowest value of GE was detected in the silages of B variant. Gross energy values determined by calculation were higher than value determined calorimetrically (0.3-1.8%), with significant differences in B variant. The values of ME varied between 13.77 (A and B variant) and 13.81 (K variant) MJ in 1 kg of dry mater. The addition of silage additives did not influence ME value (P gt 0.05). The highest NEL value (8.88 MJ/kg of dry matter) calculated on the basis of calorimetric GE was found in control silages (K). Silages of A variant marked the lowest NEL value (8.82 MJ/kg of dry matter). The NEL values calculated on the base of GE (Schiemann et al. (1972) varied between 8.82 (B variant) and 8.85 MJ/kg of dry matter (K variant). Differences between NEL values determined on the base of GE (Schiemann et al., 1972) and on the basis of calorimetric GE were significant only in B variant (P lt 0.05).
