The universal trend of actual lifestyle is high acceptance of ecology and sustainable agriculture, gardening and ecological products and materials. We present the special plant, safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.), from growth and crown petals production standpoint which is important for its usage as an alternative dye. The production of crown petals which are suitable for natural colorants production was evaluated on the ground of different fertilizer dose and irrigation influence. The number of flower calyx on one plant and the weight of crown petals on one plant were classified. The experimental works were realized on the open field and in the laboratories of the [formerly] Research Institute of Vegetables in Nové Zámky. The experiment was made during the vegetation seasons in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
