Indonesia - Intensified Iodine Deficiency Control Project
Plancenter Ltd | Ethiopia
One of the components of the Road Sector Development System Project is to upgrade and rehabilitate trunk roads and rural roads. This environmental analysis consists of a road sector environmental assessment, and individual environmental assessments for the five selected roads: Alemgena-Hossaina-Sodo Road, Woldiya-Adigrat-Zalambessa Road, Debre Markos-Gondar Road, Awash-Kulubi-Dire Dawa-Harar Road, and Mojo-Awash-Mille Road. In case of displacement of people as a result of the project, the Ethiopian Road Authority is responsible for monitoring and evaluating resettlement arrangements. Careful siting of road alignments and efficient drainage are main means to control erosion resulted from cutting roads and filling embankments. In order not to pollute rivers and springs with cement slag and oil and fuel spills, road diversion and other appropriate measures will be taken on each specific site. Paved roads with paved shoulders and protected embankment/cut slopes will reduce dust problems during operation. New road alignments through National Parks will destroy wildlife habitat, so a detailed environmental impact analysis is needed. Forestry Authorities and local people will be consulted to minimize forest encroachment.
