Transport network model
MILLER, L.
A transportation network model has been designed to simulate the traffic flows in a country taking the transportation system and shipping requirements as inputs. The output of the model is the system network link utilization with its associated costs and performance measures. The model has been designed to use the basic production and consumption data furnished by the macroeconomic model for the community supplies and demands. Required inputs pertaining to the system include the regional supply of each commodity, regional demand for each commodity, regional unit production costs by industry, information on the intraregional distribution and product mix of each industry, topology and characteristics of the transport network, transport preference weighings associated with each community, operating characteristics and costing for each transport mode, and transport pricing policy in the form of a rate structure for each mode and class of vehicle. The required computational steps include commodity disaggregation and link edit, computation of flows, model cost-performance determination, transport price determination, and summation of the system performance measures.
