In the conditions of the Republic of Belarus there were presented results of research into the dynamics of productivity of pea (Pisum) and oat (Avena sativa) mixture depending on the level of contamination of soil by heavy metals. We have established that the plants successfully manage the surplus of heavy metals only at a relatively low concentration of them. The concentration of these elements (Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn) at the level from one to four of (approximate permissible concentration APC) leads to active absorption of ions of heavy metals and to the decrease of productivity of the crop by 16-50% depending on the contaminating element. There were suggested methods which provide obtaining ecologically safe production. One of the applied techniques was the use of biological methods. At the allowable level of functioning of ecological system it was efficient to cultivate tolerant and resistant varieties and crops. At the same time, it was necessary to take into consideration that the highest contamination concentrations were in roots, then leaves, stalks and then in seeds. The contaminated plots could be used only for seed growing.
