A study of basic communication skills of the extension workers in Daqahlia Governorate

Generally, this research aimed at identifying the level of basic communication skills of the extension workers in Dqahliya governorate, through both subjective and objective assessment, and to be familiar with the differences among the existing basic levels of communication skills of extension workers, in addition to identify its levels through both subjective and objective assessment of extension workers. The current study was carried out in three districts in Dqahliya governorate, including Belqas, Dekernes and Meet Ghamr. The sample of study included the extension workers of the districts villages, the subject matter specialists who attended the organized meetings and their counterparts in the extension resources. The number of the villages extension workers who attended the meetings of data collection were 67 equal to 54.9% of the total number of three districts extension workers. As for the number of the subject matter specialists, it was 25 equal to 83.8%, and the number of their counterparts in the extension resources was 17 equal to 68%. The subjective assessment carried out by questionnaire prepared for this purpose, and objective assessment was carried only for listening and reading skills through a cassette and reading a written text and answering the questions. The data was collected during March and April 2009, while the frequencies, percentages, arithmetic mean, (f) test and (t) test as tools for the statistical analysis. The main findings could be summarized as the following: - The level of the existing skills like listening, reading, talking and writing is moderate measured through subjective assessment.- The level of listening and reading is moderate measured through objective assessment. - There are significant differences between the levels of the availability of basic communication skills studied and measured through subjective assessment among the extension workers in Daqahliya, especially in reading and talking. while there is no significant differences among them in writing and listening.-There are significant differences between the levels of the availability of basic communication skills studied and measured the through objective assessment among the extension workers in Daqahliya, especially in reading, while there is no significant differences among them in listening.-There are differences between the levels of the availability of listening and reading measured through subjective and objective assessment. This reflect how the extension workers exaggerated when they assess themselves concerning reading and listening.
