Aflatoxin B1 content in 120 samples each of soybean meal, rice bran and fish meal was monitored since these are among the commonly used feed ingredients for poultry feeding in and around Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh. The monthly percentage of aflatoxin B1 contamination varied from 60 to 90 for soybean meal, 30 to 60 for rice bran and 20 to 70 for fish meal samples. The percentage of aflatoxin B1 positive samples was 77 for soybean meal and 49 each for rice bran and fish meal. Aflatoxin B1 contamination ranged from 0.00 to 1.35 for soybean meal, 0.00 to 0.22 for rice bran and 0.00 to 0.60 ppm for fish meal with an average of 0.37 for soybean meal, 0.05 for rice bran and 0.10 ppm for fish meal. The study reveals that aflatoxin contamination was higher in soybean meal as compared to rice bran and fish meal. The percentage of aflatoxin positive soybean meal samples tended to be higher in the months of July, August and September, however, no relationship could be established between climatic conditions and aflatoxin contamination of rice bran and fish meal samples.
