This paper looks at the trade in cattle between Southern Sudan and Northern Uganda. Currently, numbers of cattle crossing the border are controlled by Sudanese traders in order not to swamp the market in the North of Uganda. However, the authors state that there may be untapped markets for disease free Sudanese cattle in Southern Uganda.In order that Uganda authorities allow Sudanese cattle to be marketed in the disease free south, infrastructure must be improved at crossing point on the border. The authors make recommendationsfor improved veterinary facilities at crossingsbetter holding and quarantine areas installation of small dams to increase access to waterconstruction of three new abattoirsroad improvement so that cattle can be transported by truckfurther exploration of markets in the DRC and Kenyatraining of livestock producers, traders, butchers and skins handlers in a number of identified skills
