Collection & Identification of medicinal plants in zanjan province

The research project of collection & identification of medicinal plants was put into practice and was sponsored by the Research Center of Natural Resources & Livestock Affairs of Zandjan province from 2000 for a period of 4 years. The main objectives of project were the collection & identification of medicinal plants in Zandjan province. Study schedule was comparizes of two steps, including (1) field study and collecting of specimens and (2) the library and herbarium studies. In Zandjan province 217 medicinal plant were identified which belong to 68 families. The most number of medicinal specimens belong to compositae family. Before to this study, about 49 medicinal species were identified in the study area, while 168 new species were introduced to medicinal plants for Zandjan province. An amount of 13 medicinal species were introduced for the first time from Zandjan which were considered as medicinal plants that have been used by residential in Zandjan province while there were no records of them in scientific sources as medicinal plants.
