The availability of mineral resources and their utilisation for covering both the domestic and external demand are among the indices that influence the development of the national economy. Although the range and amount of mineral resources available in Latvia is low in comparison with other countries, they play an important role in the development of the construction, agriculture, and other industries. The aim of this research is to analyse the role of mineral resources in the national economy of Latvia and their impact upon the long-term development of the national economy. In order to achieve this aim, it is necessary to analyse the programme documents of the long-term development of Latvia within the context of the EU long-term economic policy goals.
