Economic disparities between regions are increasing with the integration of national economies into the global market. Inequality between the municipalities does not decrease, but quite the opposite. It is necessary for national development policy markers to pay special attention to the question of what happens at the local level, in order to find the answer to this economic and social problem, and to create instruments and measures to help affected communities to help overcome their problems. The limiting factors of local economic development in Serbia are primarily reflected in the slow low regulations outdated infrastructure, small market and lack of authority and resources to solve local problems. This paper highlights the key constraints and other limiting factors of local economic development their causes and points out the consequences of their long-term effects.
