Quantity and composition of solid waste as for solid waste management in Chet Sao Noi National Park, Saraburi province

Objectives of this research were to study about quality and composition of solid waste as for solid waste management in Chet Sao Noi National Park. Solid waste generated during July to September 2010 was consisted of food wastes 46.21-55.33 percent, plastics 20.45-30.77 percent, glasses 12.45-17.36 percent, papers 2.21-6.53 percent, metals 0.56-0.68 percent, woods 0.68-2.10 percent, textiles 0.11 percent, and others 1.77-2.50 percent. Bulk density was 0.12-0.26 kg/L. Moisture content was 19.41 percent. The generation rate was 0.18-1.25 kg/person/day. The highest quantity of solid waste generated during a special holiday in July was 1,965 kg/day. As a result of chemical analysis, it is suggested that incineration and sanitary landfill are suitable for solid waste disposal due to high volatile solids (88.73 percent), and low ash content (11.23 percent). Having low C/N ratio, if composting is an interesting options, adding carbon quantity may be needed. The result from this study indicates that a recycling process is recommended for solid waste management in Chet Sao Noi National Park. This includes public relation to visitors to separate the solid wastes, it would help reducing the amount of solid waste to dispose at the landfill.
