In Thailand, field-based residues such as rice straw and cane trash have relatively huge potential for 2nd generation biofuel production, which does not involve the use of human food. However, to have such biomass available with cost competitive to other dedicated feedstock, all processing steps including harvesting, pre-processing, collecting, and transporting processes of such biomass feedstock are considered important, since the operating cost of the processes will occupy a significant portion of the total 2nd generation biofuel production cost. In order to reduce the cost, it is necessary to gain insight and clarify the existing shortcomings of the processes. Therefore, the logistics model and computer program for simulating the processes were developed in this study. Analyses performed through the computer program based on data obtained by time studies of the processes showed possibility to reduce the operating cost of the processes.
