Nitrogen uptake and yield productivity of wheat plant as affected by soil salinity and nitrogen fertilization

A pot experiment was conducted under green house conditions at the farm of Faculty of Agriculture, Zagazig University, using wheat (Triticum aestivum C.V., Sakha 93) during the winter season of 2009/2010. This investigation aimed to study the effect of nitrogen fertilization from mineral (soluble urea-N) under conditions of organic manure (chicken.) or bio fertilization on dry matter content, N uptake, yield and yield quality of wheat plant grown under saline conditions. The obtained data reveal that: dry matter content, N uptake, yield and yield quality were decreased with increasing the soil salinity level up to15.5 dSm-1 (in soil past extract). This trend was found true under all nitrogen fertilization treatments; at all growth stages. dry matter content, N uptake, yield and yield quality were increased with increasing the application rate of mineral-N up to the level of 120 mg N kg-1 soil. Under the salinity levels of 6.11, 11.0 and 15.5 dSm-1 the values of dry matter content. yield and yield quality were decreased under the application rate of mineral-N 120 mg N kg-I soil. - dry matter content, N uptake, yield and yield quality were increased due to application of chicken manure (at the rate of 2%) or biofertilization by inoculating seeds with N-biofertilizer (Azospiriltum brasilense). the promotive effect of the different nitrogen fertilization sources on dry matter content, N uptake, yield and yield quality may follow the order of: mineral-N+biofertilizer mineral-N+chicken manure mineral-N For dry matter content and N uptake at ti11ering stage, the order was: mineral-N mineral-N + biofertilizer mineral-N+ chicken manure.
