the effect of feeding high level of sugar beet pulp in dairy ration

To study the effect of feeding high Levels of sugar beet pulp on yield and composition of milk of dairy cows, five Holstein cows were used. Cows were kept ln separate pens provided with iudividual feeding and watering facilities. The five experimental rations contained 0.0, 35.0, 52.50, 58.94 and 65.26 percent sugar beet pulp respectively. Tbe ratioins were adjusted for protein, fat, minerals, and vitamins to meet NRC(21) requirements. The feeding experiment lasted 140 days and was divided into five 28-day feeding periods. Feed consumption was recorded daily. Feed and feed refusal were sampled for proximate analysis. The, daily milk yield cf each cow was recorded and composition of milk samples determined. There was no evidence of digestive disturbance due to different treatments. Average daily milk production per cow for treatments with increasing amounts of beet pulp was 17.0, l7.5, 17.8, 17.1, and 17.6 kg. The difference were not statistically significant. protein, fat, calcium, and phosphoru contents of milk of the cows averaged 3.38%, 3.83%, 1047 ppm and 995 ppm respectively. There were no significant differences in these constituents of milk from Cows fed the diffcrent rations. Tho amounts of daily feed consumed by cows on different ration ere not different statistically and averaged 18.4 kg per cow. Cows drank an average cf 72.1 kg water per day. No significant difference was found in water intake of cows fed different rations. To ccmpare the digestibility of the experimental rations, 5 mature ram lambs were usad in a Latin-square design using 17-day feeding periods. Chromic oxide was used as an indicator to measure increased as the content of beet pulp in the ration increased. digestibility of crude proteindeelined as sugar beet pulp in the ration increases. Eocnomic evaluation of the results Showed that beet pulp rations more economical than tbe control ration. the ration which contained 52.5% sugar beet pulp cost least and proved to be the most economical of all of the rations for milking Cows in this experiment. The result estabLished the fact that rations for Livestock in Khuzestan can effectively include high levels of sugar beet pulp.
