A Study on Socio-economic Damages of Landslides (Case Study: Imamzadeh Ali & Barikan Landslides)

Landslides is a natural disaster with great human and socio-economic losses in Iran. Also it causes great damages to natural resources in the country as well as threatening residential sites, reservoirs, economic damages through rapid siltation of big and other infrastructual facilities like roads, water and electricity network etc. On the other hand, results of studies show that there are about 4100 landslides all over the country. This indicates that the frequency of landslide occurance in Iran is high. A literatural based study together with field evaluations on direct and indirect socio-economic damages of landslides were conducted in Imam Zadeh Ali region which is located in Km. 80 Haraz Rd. (Roud-e-hen and Amol reach) and in Barikan region (Taleghan watershed). The results show that economic damage of the occurance of landslides in the study areas should have been about 261799Ã106Rials(85000Rials=US$1). Furthermore, it was found out that the type of damages in the studied areas are not the same. For inatance, indirect damages of landsliding in Haraz region was about 93.8% of the total economic damage, whilest it was about 9.3% for Barikan in Taleghan watershed.
