Comparison of mechanized direct planting and transplanting with conventional method and selecting the best one

In order to comparison of mechanized direct planting and transplanting with conventional method, this project was conducted under semi-arid climate and loamy soil conditions within a period of one year in Agricultural Research Center of East Azarbayjan. In this research, experimental design was Randomized Complete Block Design with four replication and experimental treatments were as follows : 1. Conventional planting method. 2. Mechanized direct row-planting method with using of a pneumatic planter (Khorasan Continer) before spring (at the end of winter). 3. Mechanized direct row-planting method with using of a pneumatic planter (Khorasan Continer) at the beginning of spring. 4. Transplanting by hand. In addition to crop yield comparison among all treatments, performance parameters of transplanter including : suitable travel speed, percentage of slippage, unit-area planting time, number of seeds planted in unit-area, distance monotonousness between seedlings in two neighbor rows, accuracy and monotonousness in depth of planting, must have been determined. Finally a Randomized Complete Block Design experiment with four replication and four treatments was used. Results indicated that mechanized direct row planting with making use of a pneumatic planter (Khorasan Continer) at the end of winter, have better yield production in comparison with conventional method. Therefore in regions which, produced crop-yield is about 50 ton/ha , this method is advisable. Besides, in row planting system, mechanized weeding and cost reduction of onion producing is imaginable. Furthermore limited sand using in process of mechanized direct row planting of onion was caused reduction of irrigation times and in this manner were solved cultivation problems of this crop in East Azarbayjan province
