The effects of irrigation invervals and different potassium rates on yield and seed oil content of canola

In order to evaluate the effects of different rates of potassium and irrigation intervals on yield and seed oil content of canola, this experiment was conducted in 2 years(2000- 2001) in Kheirabad research station in Zanjan with 12 treatments and 3 replications. Irrigation treatments were watering after 50, 75 and 100 mm cummulative evaporation from class A basin. Potassium levels used in this experiment were 0, 50,100 and 150 kg k2o/ha and potassium sulphate used as fertilizer source. The experiment had a split plot design. Irrigation levels were located in main plots and potassium levels located in sub-plots.The results of analysis of variance showed that the main effects of irrigation and potassium levels on yield and seed oil content were significant. Watering after 50mm cummulative evaporation (an interval of 6 days) resulted in highest yield of canola but this yield was not significantly different from those of treatments irrigated with an interval of 8 days (75 mm cummulative evaporation). Irrigation with an interval of 10 days (100mm cummulative evaporation) resulted in a significant reduction of yield when compared to other treatments. There was no significant effect of potassium application on canola yield .The results also indicated that while available soil potassium is sufficient, application of potassium fertilizers fail to increase yeild and water use efficiency . This experiment also recommendes 8 days irrigation intervals for canola cultivar S.L.M046 for Zanjan province and regions with the similar climatic conditions.
