Salinity is a major constraint on crop productivity in arid regions which decreases gemination percentage and root yield. Improvement of the quality and tolerance of pollinator diploid ٩٥٢٩- B-II is one of the objectives of this research. For this purpose, ٢٠٠ roots were selected randomly from the population. After overwintering, ١٠٠ roots selected and each was divided into two parts. In March ٢٠٠٥, the two parts were planted against each other on two furrows ٥٠ cm apart. After irrigation and other agricultural practices, each pair was placed under a cage. The seeds of ٤٣ S١ populations were obtained. The germination of S١ progenies along with a single cross was evaluated in greenhouse under salinity conditions. Based on the results of the evaluation, ٢٤ S١ were selected. The selected S١ progenies were planted in September ٢٠٠٦ for the production of stecklings. Roots were harvested in March ٢٠٠٧ and then planted in isolation tents. Diploid test crosses were evaluated in two years in salinity levels of ١٢ and ١٦ dS m-١ and the best of them were further evaluated in the field. At the same time, seven diploid pollinators with good performance under salinity stress were crossed with two single crosses (MSC٢ * A١ and ٢١٦*٢٣١). Fourteen hybrids were evaluated under greenhouse conditions for germination in a randomized complete block design. Considering the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of single crosses, the S١ No. ١٧ was beter than other populations and can be used for next cycle. In ١٩٩٧ and ١٩٩٨, ١٤ diploid hybrids with salinity tolerance along with a salt tolerant and and a salt sensitive contorol were evaluated in salinity condition in Rudasht Research Station, Isfahan. The results showed that MSC٢*٩٥٢٩-II and (٢٦١ * ٢٣١) * ٧٢٣٣-١-p.٢١ hybrids produced higher white sugar yield. The results of analysis of variance and the average yield and quality in ١٩٩٨ shows that among the traits measured, sugar content (SC) and white sugar content (WSC) were significant at less than ٥٪ probability level. Other traits did not show statistical significant differenc
