Effects of dietary nutrient concentrations on growth performance and carcass characteristics in growing-finishing pigs

A total of 90 crossbred (initial BW=6.16 kg) were used to investigate the effects of dietary nutrient concentrations on productivity and carcass characteristics in growing-finishing pigs. The experiment was conducted in three treatments as a randomized complete block (RCB) design. A basal diet (T1) was prepared according to the Korean Feeding Standard for Swine (2002), and proportions off all nutrients contained in the basal diet were approximately increased to 8% (T2) or 16% (T3). Average daily feed intake (ADF1) and G:F ratio were influenced (P<0.05) but average daily gain (ADG) was not influenced (P>0.05) when pigs were fed high nutrient level throughout the whole experimental period. Carcass characteristics including slaughter weight, back-fat thickness, lean and fat contents were not influenced (P>0.05) by nutrient concentrations. Carcass grade was improved (P<0.05) according to the increased nutrient concentrations. The results indicated that feed efficiency and carcass grade were not influenced by dietary treatments.
