Allometric equations for sapling stages of three mangrove species in Real, Quezon Province, Philippines

The limited number of available site-specific and species-wise allometric regression equations that determine biomass estimates of forest ecosystems affect the reliability of data used in addressing global climate change issues. It is therefore necessary that these allometric regression equations are developed to increase the accuracy of data that will serve as bases for the decisions of natural resources managers and policy-makers. The study developed allometric regression equations (diameter less than or equal to 5 cm) for the three dominant mangrove species of the Real Mangrove Swamp Area, namely: Rhizophora mucronata, Avicennia marina, and Sonneratia alba. The Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method revealed that the polynomial equation, Y=a+b D sup 2+ cD sup 2 + dD sup2 H, represents the least-squares line of best fit (R sup 2) for the three mangrove species. The equation developed can reliably predict biomass estimates of three species and their different tree components by more than 90%.
