Information on the diversity of the yardlong bean accessions conserved at the National Plant Genetic Resources Laboratory (NPGRL) is essential to increase utilization of the conserved germplasm. Sixty-two accessions of yardlong bean from NPGRL were regenerated in the experimental field of the Crop Science Cluster-Institute of Plant Breeding [College, Laguna, Philippines]. These accessions were characterized using the modified descriptor list of Bioversity International for yardlong bean. Preliminary yield evaluation and resistance to pests like pod borer and aphids and diseases like little leaf was also conducted. Selected accessions were submitted to the Analytic Laboratory for nutraceutical properties analysis Shannon-Weaver diversity index (H') showed that there is low to high diversity in selected characters of yardlong bean accessions. Low diversity was observed in internode color while medium diversity was observed in immature pod color, mature pod color, pod curvature, pod cross-section, branch orientation, leaf color at 50% flowering, petiole color and basal petiole color. On the other hand, high diversity was observed in pericarp thickness, prominence of seed locules, pod surface texture, days to first mature pods and terminal leaflet shape. Characterization of seed is still on-going. For disease evaluation, 2 accessions (PHL no. 94 and 98) showed resistance to mosaic virus. Four accessions, namely Acc. 32, 76, 94, and 95 were identified by the IPB legume breeding group to be promising based on vigor, prolificacy, and maturity. Analysis for nutraceutical properties like phytic acid, beta-carotene starch as well as proximate analysis of the selected accessions is underway.
