Allelopathic management of Avena fatua L., Rumex dentatus L. and associated crops
2012
Anwar, T.
This study was conducted to investigate the allelopathic effect of powder and aqueous extracts of Rumex dentatus L., Euphorbia helioscopia L., Parthenium hysterophorus L. and Carica papaya L. on seed and seedlings of Avena fatua L., R. dentatus, Helianthus annuus L., (K.S.E 7777), Triticum aestivum L., (Wafaq 2001) and Zea mays L., (Islamabad gold 2010) on filter paper, agar and soil in laboratory conditions. Germination, radical length and plumule growth of T. aestivum was significantly suppressed by R. dentatus and P. hysterophorus treatments while remained unaffected in E. helioscopia and C. papaya treatments as compared to control. P. hysterophorus and C. papaya decreased the germination and subsequent growth of A. fatua and R. dentatus. Germination of Z. mays and H. annuus was not suppressed by E. helioscopia and P. hysterophorus treatments, respectively. The radical and plumule growth of Z. mays and H. annuus was decreased by E. helioscopia in direct seeding while remained unaffected in seedling. R. dentatus exhibited auto-toxicity.
