The survey of yield potential, earliness and some traits of local Bloch onion cultivar in onion continued production regions

Onion is as an important vegetable in people nutrition by preparing vitamins and main elements. Onion cultivation area and total production are 50000 ha and 2000000 T respectively. Onion continuous project cultivation area is almost 10000 ha mainly in southern provinces for crop production in winter season. In this project commonly used of imported varieties (F1 or OP) by transplanting system. Blochi local cultivar cultivation area in Sistan and Blochestan province is almost 3500 ha , this cultivar widely used because of it s earliness and low seed price. So this research was conducted during 2012-2013 in Jiroft, Minab and Iranshahr regions for comparing this cultivar with Primavera, Savana Sweet , Early White, Jagwar and three Italian short day onion namely 335, OSY101 and OSR102. This research was done in RCBD design with four replications. Each plot had eight rows with 4m length. The cultivation operations was done regularly and yield were recorded by bulb harvesting from 4 median rows , Meanwhile neck diameter, bolting percentage, bulb diameter and bulb weight were recorded. Results showed that Primavera and Savana Sweet were better than other varieties in the yield and bulb diameter traits. Bulb weight was the highest in Jagwar variety. Yield was the least in Italian varieties but bolting percentage of them was the least too. Blochi cultivar yield was almostly 41 T/ha. This cultivar had bulbs with low neck diameter. The yield of this cultivar was 52 T/ha in Jiroft region that it s rank was the same with Primavera variety. The yield ranking of Blochi cultivar in Minab was the same with Early White variety.Finally it can be said Blochi cultivar as a local variety with having red bulbs was fairly good cultivar and its breeding programme starting specially for bolting reduction is recommended.This cultivar although had thin necks same as hybrid control varieties but it could not compet with these varieties in yield and bolting tra its.
