Study o mosses (bryophytes) in Iran in spite o its richness, has received less attention so ar, particularly by the Iranian botanists. During the last two decades, Shirzadian, the author o the present investigation, as an indigenous bryologist, conducted some research projects on investigation and identiications o mosses mainly collected by him rom the northern and some western parts o the country. The present research project is undertaken in continuation o his previous attempts aiming to provide a bryological taxonomic account in Ardebil, West & East Azarbaijan provinces (NW Iran). In the current project, out o 92 moss specimens collected rom the surveyed area, ive varieties, 64 species and 25 genera, belonging to 13 amilies were identiied (or detail, reer to the Persian text). Out o these, eight species, namely, Bryum algovicum Sendtn. ex Mόll. Hal., B. klinggraei Schimp., B. mildeanum Jur., Orthotrichum rivulare Turner, Didymodon sinuosus (Mitt.) Delogne, unaria microstoma Bruch ex Schimp. and Syntrichia sinensis (Mόll. Hal.) Ochyra were new or the moss lora o Iran including Bryum campylopodioides Mόll. Hal. which is new to both SW Asia as well as Iran. The voucher specimens along with their herbarium numbers and other related data are preserved in the non-lowering section o the Herbarium o the Ministry o Jihad-e-Agriculture ("IRAN") at the Iranian Research Institute o Plant Protection (Tehran, Iran).
