In this project, the cause of heavy mortality of sheep in Khatounabad of Shahr-e-babak from Kerman province with symptoms such as blood in the urine, icterus and emaciation was studied. The clinical symptoms or macroscopic pathology and autopsy of affected sheep, and also, the presence of copper factory, its fumes and smog and darkening of pasture plant showed that cause of death in sheep may be copper poisoning. Therefore, plant and sheep liver samples were collected from infected and non-infected area and copper levels were measured. Then, copper levels compared with t-test. The plants dusts were comprised high amount of copper (average: 179.2 18.8 mg/kg). Average amount of copper in the liver of sick and dead sheep were 739 23.9 mg/kg, which indicated a severe infection of sheep to copper. T- test results showed the deference between the amount of copper in plants and liver of sheep in pollutant and non pollutant area is very significant. So, it was concluded that contaminant in sheep were due to Khatounabad copper factory. Therefore, the correction of filtration system of factory is necessary. Also, molybdenum compounds can be used to reduce the effects of extra copper in feed by recommending a vet. Key words: copper, toxicity, sheep, Khatounabad, Pasture plant
