The extreme drought of 2012 caused an apparent decline in Apoidea never recorded earlier. The decline in the Apoidea populations, especially bumblebees, is predicted on the background of the short- and mid-term climate projections for Moldova being in line with many European assessments on other insects. It brings heavy consequences for a range of entomophilous tree and shrub species, many herbaceous plants, while reduced fructification creates heavy consequences for invertebrates and vertebrates, for example overwintering birds. A drastic decline of some important pollinators is currently observed due to the habitat fragmentation and diminished area under alfalfa.
