Long-term tendencies of extreme temperature indices of warm period in the Republic of Moldova | Mnogoletnie tendentsii indeksov temperaturnykh ekstremumov teplovogo perioda v Moldove

Overcenco, A.
The trends of the changes in the WMO recommended extreme temperature indices that characterize the thermal regime of the warm period have been assessed in the Republic of Moldova on the basis of the long-term (1945-2010) data. The trend analysis for the two time slices of the current climate (“stationary” and “vulnerable”) has revealed a change in signs for almost all the indicators of “hot” temperature extremes during the ”stationary” climate (up to 1980’s) the trends are descending, while the tendencies of the “vulnerable” climate are positive. A comparison of the total number of the extreme temperature events studied for the entire observation period has shown that the number of temperature extremes in the warm period has increased significantly over the last 30 years. This growth is particularly noticeable in the indices which describe night temperature conditions. The analysis of time trends of the extreme temperature indices confirms not only the fact of general warming of the regional climate, but also shows “extreme” nature of such warming expressed in an increased number of “hot” temperature extremes in warm season.
