9th Baltic Theriological Conference: book of abstracts, Daugavpils, 16–18 October, 2014
2014
This will be the 9th Conference in total and the third time that the honourable task of organizing falls on Latvian mammalogists. When Latvia first held the event in 1996, it was hosted by the Latvia State Forest Research Institute (LSFRI) “Silava”. For the forthcoming event, LSFRI “Silava” will be involved again, working in close collaboration with Daugavpils University, the Institute of Systematic Biology and Latvia’s Theriological Society. At this Conference, we expect to cover a broad spectrum of topics about the mammals of the Baltic region and surrounding territories. It will include studies from the molecular to the ecosystem level and implications from laboratory methods to environmental policy and legislation. Special attention will be given to DNA studies in populations of the Baltic mammals. We are particularly looking forward to covering this subject at the Conference in Latvia since LSFRI “Silava” have started to lead a project financed by the European Social Fund and called “Establishment of a system for genetic monitoring in wild populations”. The 9th Baltic Theriological Conference will continue the tradition of sharing our achievements, discussing current difficulties and challenges in mammal research, as well as planning our future research projects.
