[Pedological study of soils developed on Basalt, and its classification in the area of (Daher Al Kssair)]

To achieve the objectives of the study twelve soil profiles were selected in Daher Al Kssair (Homse), representing the soils of the study area. The profiles were prepared and described, bulk samples were systematically collected. The obtained results indicate that, the soils are formed from the original basaltic parent material, the topographical position plays a important role in the development of the soil particularly the depth of the profile. The climate plays a strong part, as the area receiving more than 1000 mm of rainfall yearly. The differences in particle size distribution, the relative increase clay in the subsurface horizons, may be due to either clay migration in sit clay formation and soil erosion. The surface of colloids are dominated by Ca+2 and Mg+2, the CEC is high so rather high follow the nature and amount of clay. The slightly to acid pH, is the result of leaching process in the soil, since the soil receiving rather high. The soluble Al+3 found in the soil is rather high and exceeding the normal and accepted limit, and it is expected to be at the base of some problems occurring on crops of the area particularly (Apple trees). This matter strongly considered, by trying to increase the pH of the soil, using the suitable amendment, such as CaCO3. The soil content of trace element is ranging between moderate to high, because parent material content high amount of this element except boron.
