Despite the 50 year old history of fodder feeder use for feeding different livestock species, there are only two sheep farms in Latvia where the automatic fodder feeders are used for feeding of sheep. The research, which was carried out at the farm „Mezoki” at Kuldiga district lasted for eleven week period. The objective of the research was to collect and analyse the data recorded by the sheep automatic fodder feeding station regarding the frequency of sheep visits at the fodder feeder and the amount of the sheep individual fodder intake. Eighty-five one year old sheep were set apart from the herd and penned in a separate pen. The results demonstrated that a part (twenty two sheep) of the research group animals did not visit the automatic fodder feeding station at all (group N1). Every day the station was visited regular by twenty-eight sheep (group P1) and the automatic fodder feeding station was visited partly by thirty-five sheep (group D1.1 and D1.2). At its maximum the number of automatic fodder feeding station visits amounted to fourteen, but regarding the average number of visits per day, one can see that the visits occurred with a regularity of four hour intervals. The average fodder intake is close to the maximum fodder intake limit set for the automatic fodder feeding station by the herd owner. There are significant intake differences between groups P1 and D1.2 (p is less than or equal to 0.05). An unforeseen over-limit intake was observed on February 25, 2015 by twenty six sheep as a result of power supply disconnection breakdown.
