Establishing optimum seeding rate for rainfed lowland wet direct seeded rice through participatory adaptation cum techno-demo trial

In purely rainfed rice areas of Barangay [village] Rio Chico, General Tinio, Nueva Ecija, it is customary to use 120-160 kg/ha seeds in establishing wet direct seeding crop. Participatory adaptation cum techno-demo trials were conducted demonstrating the profitability of seeding rates, lower than 120 kg. The replicated on-farm trials for seeding rates of 40, 60, 80 and 120 kg/ha were established in 2013 wet season (WS) and 2014 WS with variety katihan 1 and PSB Rc 10, respectively. For cultural management, recommendations from Rice Crop manager were employed. The grain yields obtained in both trials did not vary significantly with seeding rate.
