Serbian wheat genotypes response to contemporary demands of environmental protection

Despite the detrimental impacts, the use of fertilizers (N in particular) in agriculture, together with an improvement in cropping systems, mainly in developed countries, have provided a food supply sufficient for both animal and human consumption. Consequently, this paper deals with assessment of nitrogen nutrition efficiency of Serbian wheat genotypes, based on several important indicators, such as: nitrogen content in aboveground part of plant at anthesis, grain and straw and total nitrogen content at maturated plant, nitrogen reutilization and post – anthesis accumulation of nitrogen. According to three - years average values for tested indicators, the most efficient genotypes were: КG 10, Еvropa 90 and Morava, obtaining the highest values of accumulation of nitrogen in aboveground part of plant at anthesis, grain and straw and total nitrogen accumulation in maturated plant. Genotypes Prima, Lepenica and Studenica expressed the greatest ability to reutilize nitrogen, accumulated in plant during period until anthesis, while KG 200/31, KG 253/4 – 1 and KG 10 were dominant in continuous nitrogen assimilation during reproductive period. The emphasized genotypes are interesting in term of wheat breeding in order to obtain genotypes adapted to low – inputs cultivation systems, ecological and organic agriculture.
