The experiments were conducted in summer 2012 season and spring 2013-2014 in Tuyen Quang included 06 high-yield potential sweet sorghum varieties named NL3, EN6, EN8, KCS105, FS902 and Sugar Grase. Experimental results showed that there were some sweet sorghum varieties, having stable high quality and yield and good resistance to pests and diseases in 3 seasons of 2012-2013-2014: KCS105 (91.4 to 96.6 and 99.7 tons/ha, - brix content ranged from 14.9 to 15.5%) NL3 (86.8 - 93.6 and 96.6 tons/ha, brix content ranged from 15.1 to 15.5% and EN8 (86.9 - to 94.5 tons/ha, brix content ranged from 14.6 to 15.4%). EN6 had very high potential yield but low harvest yield in Spring due to its close response to short-day light (only flowering in mid-October). Thus it should be grown in the summer season. Moreover, it is better to apply more technical methods of pest, diseases and logdding control in order to improve actual sorghum yield. FS902 variety had high actually yield, fluctuating from 78.8-87.6 tons/ha, however it was the sensitive variety to pests especially Stem borer (Ostrinia nubilalis Hubner), Stem rot by bacteria (Erwinia carotovora) and Stem rot by Fungi (Fusarium moniliforme Sheld) hence it needs to be thoroughly considered before planting in large- scale production.
