Effects of substrates and in-vitro plant fresh weight on the growth of gloxinia (Sinningia speciosa) in nursery production

This study was designed to find the optimum of nursery substrate and to determine the suitable fresh weight of gloxinia in-vitro for nursery production. The experiments were carried out on five different nursery substrates and three gloxinia in-vitro fresh weight groups. The results of study showed that sand substrate is the most suitable substrate for nursery production of gloxinia in-vitro. The root systems have re-established and leaves emerge after planting five and eleven days, respectively. After planting 4 weeks, the survival rate is 97.78 per cent. The gloxinia plants meet the requirements for commercial production is 98.89 per cent with the average of plant height is 7.82 cm, and the average number of leaves ìs 8.04. The most suitable fresh weight of gloxinia in-vitro for nursery production is range from 0.6 gram to 1.5 gram. The study results affirmed that the gloxinia in-vitro grew well in the spring weather condition in Thua Thien - Hue province.
