Effect of different chemicals in inhibiting/delaying spore germination of some pathogenic isolates of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. capsici from different areas of chili crop

Chili (Capsicum annum L.) is economically important crop throughout the world. The world's total production of chili is 347 million tons. Pakistan is the fifth largest exporter in the world having cultivation on an area of 62.7 thousand hectares with production of 150.3 thousand tons and average yield of 2.7 tons/ha. The production of chili is decreasing in Pakistan due to many reasons like decline in cultivated area of this crop, environmental fluctuations, insect pest and microbial plant pathogens. In chili, various diseases are reported caused by fungi, viruses, bacteria and nematodes. Common fungal diseases are Fusarium wilt, Damping off, Phytophthora root rot, Powdery mildew and Anthracnose. Wilt disease of chili is caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. capsici. In present study, different F. oxysporum f.sp. capsici isolates were isolated from the infected chili plant samples collected from districts Chiniot and Faisalabad. Spores were raised on PDA media and purified. Different chemicals with fungicidal potential were tested under in-vitro and in-vivo conditions against the Foc. Eight Chili genotypes were screened against Foc at field area, Department of Plant Pathology, UAF. Data was recorded and statistical analysis were applied. Disease incidence: Out of 8 varieties/lines, 1 resistant, 1 moderately resistant, 1 susceptible and 5 were highly susceptible. Out of 8 fungicides, Symoxynil + Mancozeb showed the best results while Difenoconazole and Thyomil showed least results under in-vitro and in-vivio conditions.
