One of the characteristics of the Romanija region is a high percentage of forest cover. Starting from this fact, we carried out a research study focused on the market potential assessment in one part of the region, precisely in the municipality of Sokolac. Three different questionnaires were used for the purpose of this research. The first type was designed for a forest estate within a public enterprise, the second for wood processing enterprises, and the third had enterprises engaged in purchasing, processing and sale of NWFPs as its target group. The aim of the research was to determine the state of purchasing and marketing of wood and non-wood forest products within the study companies in the area of Sokolac municipality in 2014. The purpose of the research was to examine the potential for the development of small and medium-sized enterprises engaged in the utilization of wood and non-wood forest products in the municipality of Sokolac. The study area included companies that operate in this area, the quantities that are purchased and placed, the price at which the products are placed, their promotion and distribution. The largest quantities of the products placed on the market in 2014 were in the category of sawmill timber - hardwood and mine wood. Fir and spruce logs were purchased in the largest quantities. Domestic market products included: sawn timber, building joinery, glued elements and three-layer laminates, wooden packaging and pallets, decking and paneling. On the other hand sawn timber, building joinery, glued elements and sanded beech elements were exported. Wood assortments with the highest market value in 2014 were resonant hardwoods, hardwood logs of grade F and beech logs of grade F, while wood products included glued elements and dry sanded elements.The NWFP with the highest commercial value was Morchella, the true morel. The total gross revenue raised by the study enterprise dealing with wood assortments on the domestic market was approximately 17 million € in 2014. The enterprises engaged in the production of wood products collected 1.47 million €. Regarding foreign markets the five study enterprises engaged in the production of wood products had a gross revenue of 4 million € in 2014. The most common form of promotion according to the survey conducted in the enterprises engaged in the production of wood products in the municipality of Sokolac is internet promotion.
